The India Development Alternatives Foundation (IDAF) Kanpur is one of the premier organisation in Uttar Pradesh. IDAF has been disseminating seeds of knowledge, information & education by using digital tools since its inception and has taken another step in this direction by launching its Community Radio Station (CRS) in Kanpur City. The Radio Kanpuriya is city’s first community radio service owned by civil society with in the heart of the Kanpur city, serving more than 4 million populations.
Community radio, one of the fastest growing mediums of social communication, is a short range radio station owned, run and maintained by a community. Unlike a normal FM or a commercial radio the focus of a CR is on the informative programs often socially motivated. The purpose of this radio is to give voice to the unheard voices of communities that otherwise go unnoticed. There are hundreds of CRs operating in India today.
The Radio Kanpuriya will cater to the needs and interests of the community of Kanpur with the coverage area of around 15-25 km. A whole gamut of programs will be aired at 90.8 MHz ranging from education, health, environment, agriculture, social welfare to entertainment music & live programmes.
